What Terrainity is
Terrainity is a free set of calculators and guides for everything on a piece of land: the ground itself, the yard, the patio, the fence and deck, the driveway and the pool. Each calculator turns your measurements into what you actually buy: tons, cubic yards, bags, boards, pallets or gallons.
We built it for two kinds of people: homeowners planning a weekend project, and contractors (landscapers, fence and deck builders, hardscapers, pool pros) who need a fast, clean takeoff they can attach to a quote.
How we work
- Sourced numbers. Weights, depths, coverage rates and bag yields come from university extension services, industry institutes (such as ICPI and the American Wood Council), government agencies (such as the CPSC) and manufacturers' data sheets. Each calculator lists its sources.
- Show the math. Every result has a “How we calculated this” section, so you can check each step.
- Editable assumptions. Bag sizes, stone weights, waste and compaction allowances are all visible and can be changed to match your supplier.
- Free, no account. No signup, no paywall. The PDF report is free too.
What you'll find here
- Land & acreage: Acres, lot size, square footage and volume: measure the ground before you plan anything on it.
- Gravel, stone & sand: Tons and yards of gravel, pea gravel, river rock, crushed stone and sand.
- Mulch & ground cover: Bags or yards of wood mulch and rubber mulch, at the right depth.
- Soil & garden beds: Soil, topsoil, fill dirt, compost and raised beds, plus how many plants fit.
- Lawn: Sod, grass seed and fertilizer: quantities for a new or existing lawn.
- Patios, pavers & walls: Pavers, flagstone, base, sand, concrete and retaining wall blocks.
- Fences & decks: Posts, pickets, rails, concrete and deck boards for outdoor wood structures.
- Driveways: Gravel layers and road base for a driveway that carries cars.
- Pools & ponds: Gallons in any pool or pond, the number every chemical dose and pump size starts from.
What we don't do
Terrainity gives planning estimates. It doesn't replace a licensed surveyor for boundaries, an engineer for structures and tall walls, or your local building department for permits and code. Where those matter, the calculators say so.
